Strange But True

A Navy chaplain apparently wasn't too well versed with the Eighth Commandment, "Thou shalt not steal."

Cmdr. Rudolph Cimery, 50, of Pasadena, Calif., is charged with collecting $175,000 in pay and housing and food stipends over two years after bowing out of active service in 2003.

He was last stationed at Camp Pendleton outside San Diego.

Officials in Edmonton, Canada, are spending $1.2 million to clear clogs in their sewer system caused by an excess of bacon grease that people have poured down their drains.

In some cases, sewer workers have found blockages nearly two inches thick. Officials have to clear about 200 such clogs a year, at a cost of $250 a job.

A Russian shepherd is suing his nation's space agency after a chunk of metal from a rocket damaged his outhouse.

Boris Urmatov said he was awoken by a loud crash as a rocket blasting off from the nearby Cosmodrome passed overhead.

"In the morning in front of the shepherd hut, he saw this enormous metal casing, as smooth as an egg," said his sister.

Sick of living in a nanny state, several pub owners in Edinburgh, Scotland, have banned England's Treasury chief from drinking in their bars because he raised taxes on pints.

Alistair Darling hails from Edinburgh and when one pub owner as a joke put a sign up barring him from entry, dozens of others followed suit.

"It looks like we've touched a nerve," said pub manager Andrew Little.

Things behind the scenes at the Kremlin have always been mysterious, but this is just weird.

Kremlin security services have put in an order for 3,200 white mice. All must be female and weigh no more than 18 grams. So far, the reason is unknown.

Some speculate they may be used to feed falcons that live at the Russian seat of government. Others think they may be used to test toxic substances or warn of the presence of dangerous gases.
